i found a scientific paper from the AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics) that has some intresting views about this topic. The title: “Interstellar Transportation using Today’s Physics” Dana G. Andrews, the author, claims that :

“Interstellar travel is difficult, but not impossible.”

Ability of humans to understand extra terrestrial spoken language:

The Japanese toy company Takara developed a little computer which can translate the barking of dogs to our language. In 2002, Bowlingual’s credited inventors were awarded the humorous Ig Nobel Prize for “promoting peace and harmony between the species.”
Although many people think, that the purpose of the BowLingual is only for entertainmant, I think it is a trial to understand other non-human species.

So maybe in one day, we are able to communicate with extra terrestrials, like they do in the film. The BowLingual could be one of the first steps in this direction.
